Prague, Czech Republic has truly captured my heart with its stunning beauty, rich history, vibrant nightlife, and enchanting atmosphere.
A quick background before I dive into my guide to spending three days in Prague:
Prague, Czech Republic, was the initial destination on my 10-day journey through Central Europe. I spent two unforgettable nights in Prague before concluding my adventure with one final night there, just before heading to my new home in Hradec Králové, where I will be studying abroad for the winter semester.
Prague quickly became one of my favorite cities to visit, thanks to its vibrant nightlife, the rich historical elements visible at every turn, the stunning architecture of its buildings and churches, and the overall ease and enjoyment of spending my time there. In this guide I hope to provide some small insight on things I did that truly made my trip more memorable.

The Most Important Lesson I Learned
- 🚉 VALIDATE YOUR TICKETS– I cannot stress this one enough for tourist as it is the quickest way to get a fine from ticket inspectors. Let me walk you through what I am even talking about. When you first buy your ticket at one of the machines at the train station, tram area, or for a bus… that is NOT enough for you to be able to get on the public transit. As soon as your ticket is printed, you have to take it to another little (most of the time) yellow machine that will validate what time you are using the ticket. It will print the date and time on your ticket so it is essentially active since most tickets you buy will be 30 minute, 60 minute, 90 minute, or some other amount of time. Take it from me that this is the silliest mistake and they will often times target you if you have baggage to see your ticket since they know a lot of tourist make this mistake.
- September is an ideal month for travel! Discover the enchanting streets of Prague, where the summer crowds have faded, allowing for a more intimate experience of this beautiful city. Enjoy pleasant weather, vibrant autumn colors, and a less chaotic trip during this time.
- 📱Download PID and BOLT on your phone– PID has all of the public transportation routes and options to buy SMS tickets, and BOLT is the European version of UBER that often times is cheaper if you need to go somewhere really quick.
Must-See Attractions for Your Trip
- The Astronomical Clock: This clock is located in the middle of Old Town and goes off every hour from 8am to 11pm, and is very precise. When the hour changes, you can witness a stunning display featuring moving figurines, including the Twelve Apostles. This impressive medieval astronomical clock is one of the oldest in the world, dating back to 1410, and provides not only the time but also astronomical information, making it a must-see for tourists visiting the city. Be sure to arrive a few minutes early for the best viewing spot!
- Charles Bridge: Walking across the Charles Bridge offers a unique view of Prague’s iconic architecture and the Vltava River. As you stroll along the cobbled stones, take in the 30 statues that line the bridge, which are replicas of the originals housed in museums. The bridge connects the Old Town with Prague Castle, making it a vital part of the city’s history. Underneath the bridge, you can explore the Vltava Riverbanks, where quaint cafes and artists often showcase their work. Boat rides are also available, offering a different perspective of the bridge and the stunning cityscape. Don’t forget to snap photos during your journey, especially at sunrise or sunset for breathtaking views!
- Prague’s Narrowest Street: Located in the heart of Prague, this charming alleyway is called “V Kolkovně” and is just 66 centimeters wide at its narrowest point. Often overlooked by tourists, it’s a quaint spot perfect for a quick photo op. Just a stone’s throw away is a popular restaurant, U Medvídků, where you can enjoy a refreshing Czech beer and traditional dishes in a cozy atmosphere on the river.
- Story Bridge Museum: The Story Bridge Museum, located right next to the iconic Charles Bridge in Prague, offers a captivating journey through the history of the city. Visitors can explore a wide array of exhibits that highlight Prague’s rich cultural heritage, including interactive displays and historical artifacts. The museum also features storytelling sessions that immerse guests in the narratives of the bridge and the surrounding area, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and tourists alike.
- Castle Steps: When I walked up the castle steps, I truly enjoyed one of the most beautiful views of Prague. As I took my time to appreciate the stunning architecture and vibrant colors of the buildings around me, the panorama of the city sprawled out before me, with its iconic spires, red rooftops, and the Vltava River winding through the landscape. Much to my delight, it felt less crowded once I reached the top, allowing for a more peaceful experience. I made sure to have my camera ready, especially as the view became breathtaking at sunset when the city was bathed in golden light. Along the way, I also encountered charming street performers and local vendors, which added to the vibrant atmosphere of this historic area.
- St. Vitus Cathedral (in the middle of Prague Castle): Explore the stunning Gothic architecture of St. Vitus Cathedral, which has been a symbol of Czech heritage since its construction began in 1344. It houses the tombs of many Bohemian kings and the relics of St. Wenceslas, the patron saint of the Czech Republic. The cathedral’s mesmerizing stained glass windows and intricate details make it a must-see for every visitor to Prague.
- Franz Kraft Statue: The Turning Head sculpture in Prague, created by artist David Černý, is a fascinating piece of art that constantly rotates, offering various angles for onlookers. I remember being drawn in by the crowd, all of us captivated by the head’s movement. It really struck me how this artwork seemed to blend seamlessly with the lively atmosphere of the city. Watching it turn was a memorable moment, feeling like a unique connection between art and the everyday life around me in Prague.

Tourist Tips
- Bring good walking shoes!- Prague is such an easy city to walk around, that you will thank yourself later for having good shoes.
- Be very cautious when using the city transport- Just be careful of what zones you buy, validating your ticket, and not forgetting to buy a ticket to ensure you don’t get fined by inspectors.
- Beer is cheaper than water – I’ve often heard this saying before my trip to the Czech Republic, and I found it to be true. Sampling various local beers, such as Pilsner Urquell, as well as brews from other regions, is an affordable treat that won’t break the bank.
- Avoid Tourist Traps – Restaurants located in popular tourist areas often have inflated prices and may lack authenticity. To enjoy a more genuine dining experience, consider exploring options just a short walk away from the main attractions.
